After 6 years of intensive research, Mehta finally began the shoot in Delhi. Kumar introduced Mehta to the team who had investigated the case in 2012 and gave him access to procedural records that had documented the entire events of those 6 days - from the date of the incident to the day of the arrests. Mehta - an Indian-Canadian director, well-known for his movie Amal - conceptualized the idea for Delhi Crime after a conversation with the former commissioner of Delhi police, Neeraj Kumar.
